Why should I test?

A FSH test measures the level of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) in your blood. This hormone stimulates the ovaries to release an egg. Too much or too little FSH can cause a variety of problems, including infertility, menstrual difficulties in women and low sex drive in men.

In women, these tests are most often used to:

  • Help find the cause of fertility struggles
  • Find out if there is a problem with ovaries
  • Find the reason for irregular or stopped menstrual periods
  • Confirm the start of menopause, or perimenopause.

In men, these tests are most often used to:

  • Help find the cause of fertility struggles
  • Find the reason for a low sperm count
  • Find out if there is a problem with the testes

Test Information

FSH is made by your pituitary gland, a small gland located underneath the brain and plays an important role in sexual development and functioning. FSH works closely with another hormone called luteinising hormone to control sexual functions.
Our Phlebotomy trained professional will take a blood sample from a vein in your arm, using a small needle. This sample will be tested by our authorised partners, TDL. Results from your blood tests can be expected between 5 – 7 working days after the lab receives the sample
Oh Baby LTD will not review your blood test results – we recommend you discuss these results with your healthcare provider or GP. Dependent on the results of your blood test, you may require further testing with a healthcare professional
