Our Pelvic Pain Investigation Ultrasound Scan is designed to assess the pelvic organs and investigate potential causes of ongoing or unexplained pelvic pain.

This scan provides a detailed ultrasound assessment of the uterus, ovaries, and surrounding pelvic structures to help identify conditions that may contribute to pelvic discomfort. These may include ovarian cysts, fibroids, endometriosis-related findings, or other gynaecological abnormalities.

The scan is commonly recommended for women experiencing persistent pelvic pain, painful periods, lower abdominal discomfort, or unexplained pelvic symptoms.

What to expect

• 20 minute ultrasound appointment
• Detailed pelvic ultrasound scan
• Assessment of the uterus and endometrial lining
• Examination of the ovaries for cysts or other abnormalities
• Evaluation of the pelvic region for possible causes of pain
• Opportunity to discuss the scan during the appointment
• Digital ultrasound images and written report provided

This scan may help investigate symptoms such as:

• Persistent or unexplained pelvic pain
• Painful periods
• Lower abdominal discomfort
• Pain during intercourse
• Ovarian cyst concerns
• Ongoing gynaecological symptoms

Your scan will be performed by a qualified sonographer experienced in women’s health ultrasound.

Where appropriate, scans may be performed internally to provide clearer and more detailed images of the pelvic organs. External scanning may also be used depending on the clinical situation.

A written report will be provided following the scan. If any findings require further assessment, you may be advised to follow up with your GP or a specialist for further evaluation
